Sumario:This paper analyzes the discursive construction of bilingual identity in two recently published novels –Una familia bajo la nieve (2021) and La interlengua (2023)– in dialogue with statements made by their author, Monica Zwaig, during an interview. In the various sections of this paper, we analyze how the identity of uprootedness experienced by the main characters of both novels (who are also their narrators) is configured in relation to their mother tongue(s), foreign language(s), and interlanguage. We conclude that, in Zwaig’s novels, the bilingual identity of the characters is constructed as a process that dramatizes uprootedness, ambivalence, and the complexity of their being in the world.
