Sumario:The role of the ex presidents Hugo Chavez, Nestor Kirchner and Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was decisive for the “No al Alca”. It was carried out in Mar del Plata (2005) and symbolized a new context of autonomous regional integration for Latin America and the Caribbean. The aims of this paper are based on the characteristics that had let leaders get this integration, beyond their different personal careers, which contributed to a solid regional period allowing creations as Unasur (2008) and CELAC (2011). This paper also explains the challenges that the new regional context has to confront because of the attempt at a “conservative restoration” that are breaking through these countries.
