Sumario:We present a study of the far-field diffraction patterns produced by highly conducting gratings that have a fractal profile of Cantor bars type. The diffraction patterns are calculated both from the Fourier transform method and from a vectorial electromagnetic model. Comparisons are made for gratings such that the size of the minimum diffractive element is similar to the wavelength of the incident light, and for both p- and s-polarizations. We find that for every case considered the diffraction pattern exhibits self-similarity features that can be related to those of the diffracting structure. © 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
