New palaeomagnetic study of the Uquia formation

Palaeomagnetic studies on late Cenozoic sediments from the Uquía Formation, cropping out in San Roque (Jujuy Province) were carried out. The fossils suggest a Uquian land mammal age. The characteristic remanent magnetism from 48 sites was isolated. The magnetostratigraphy of the sequence shows sever...

The fossils suggest a Uquian land mammal age. The characteristic remanent magnetism from 48 sites was isolated. The magnetostratigraphy of the sequence shows several polarity changes of the geomagnetic field, which suggest more than one possible correlation with the Magnetic Polarity Time Scale. These correlations suggest a magnetic age for the Uquía Formation, which is partially consistent with the age proposed by other authors. This magnetic age would be partially equivalent to the magnetic age of sediments of Ensenadian land mammal age from the pampean area.
