Photochemical reactions of carbazole with chloromethanes in organic media

The photochemistry of carbazole in different pure and mixtured organic solvents that contain chloro atoms in their structure is studied. Depending on the properties of the medium photoinduced single electron transfer (PSET) process is observed yielding 1-chloro and 3-chloro carbazoles as main produc...

The photochemistry of carbazole in different pure and mixtured organic solvents that contain chloro atoms in their structure is studied. Depending on the properties of the medium photoinduced single electron transfer (PSET) process is observed yielding 1-chloro and 3-chloro carbazoles as main products. Carboalkoxy and formyl carbazoles are also obtained when irradiations are performed in the presence of oxygen ks, kQ and φ for fluorescence emission of carbazole in the different organic media studied as well as conversion of carbazole and products formation have been measured. The Rehm-Weller equation is used in order to evaluate the ΔG○ETof the PSET processes. Fil:Bonesi, S.M. Universidad de Buenos Aires. Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales; Argentina.
