Influence of the degree of sulfation in the biological activity of dermatan sulfate and chondroitin sulfate C

The influence of the degree of sulfation of dermatan sulfate and condroitin sulfate C on their specific anticoagulant activities was studied under several different conditions of temperature, time of the reaction and method of sulfation. It is shown to be very important the use of an homogeneous rea...

Schenone, M. Recondo, E.F. Fernández De Recondo, M.E. The influence of the degree of sulfation of dermatan sulfate and condroitin sulfate C on their specific anticoagulant activities was studied under several different conditions of temperature, time of the reaction and method of sulfation. It is shown to be very important the use of an homogeneous reaction for sulfation, and very smooth conditions in order to avoid the hydrolysis of labile groups. The results confirm that the degree of sulfation is an important property of the CAGs and an increase of sulfation raises the specific anticoagulant activity of DS and CS-C.
