592 |a This entry is intended to analyse central aspects of the Chinese rise. In the introduction the article highlights the meaning of the process of national and social revolution that began in 1911 and ended in 1949 as a substantial change in the world system. From there, the stages of the emergence of China are succinctly observed. Then, the focus is on the emergency of China in the twenty-first century, within the framework of the historical spatial transition in the world system, the emergence of Asia Indo-Pacific and the crisis of the world order established by the West. Both the evolution of China from the huge industrial semi-periphery to develop central capacities and its evolution from regional power to global power are analysed. All this has profoundly changed the inter- states hierarchies and the international alignments, the international division of labour and the centre-periphery dynamics, causing systemic tensions. Finally, five key moments since 1999 to the Pandemic are identified to understand the rise of China.  |l eng
