description In this work, the frst results of the historical and archaeological research of the Fuerte Cruz de Guerra site, centered in the analysis of the architectural features and the social dynamics within it, are presented. This frontier military settlement was built in 1828 following a design of Engineer Narciso Parchappe, and it was located south of the homonymous lagoon, at the 25 de Mayo department, Province of Buenos Aires. It was inhabited between 1828 and 1859, until a Pampas Indians attack burnt down the settlement. The identifcation of the archaeological site relied on the study of diverse historical sources, satellite images, and a sample of materials found during a preliminary survey of the area. Based on this data, it was possible to describe the characteristics of the site and its surrounding area, perform an initial temporal and spatial assessment of the remains, and propose the methodological linings for future works at the fortifcation.
