It thus disproves the recalcitrant conception of the archive as a place where documents are merely prepared as the raw material for specialists allegedly better gifted for highly theoretical thinking in history and philosophy. The available technological resources for editing manuscript document create however, another risk for the archives, namely the illusion that the editions in the digital era are perfect and unbeatable, and, consequently, that the work at the archives will not be further needed. La importancia que ha tenido el archivo en el que se reúnen los manuscritos de G. W. Leibniz en Hannover (Alemania) para la comprensión de su pensamiento desmiente la concepción del trabajo en un archivo como mera conservación, catalogación y edición de documentos al servicio de la tarea de otro tipo de especialistas a quienes se considera mejor dotados para su interpretación teórica. La edición de los manuscritos inéditos de Leibniz anula la distinción artificial entre el documento de archivo como dato empírico puro y su interpretación histórica o filosófica. Los recursos tecnológicos con los que se cuenta en el presente crean sin embargo la ilusión de ediciones inmejorables e indestructibles.
