This episode was registered in some historical documents found in a file at the Archivo Histórico de la Provincia de Córdoba. That file also contains another document, related to a previous event, but which also concerns the same lieutenant and militias. This paper has a double objective: on the one hand, we analyze the desertion based on a careful reading of the different documents, seeking to explain the different edges –political, socioeconomic and interethnic– of the conflict. On the other hand, we present a methodological reflection on the documents that compound the file, focusing on their formats, the later assemble in one file, and some issues concerning the field work in the historical archives. En el marco de una entrada punitiva hacia el Chaco en 1731, varias compañías de las milicias cordobesas se sublevaron, regresaron a la ciudad y decidieron no volver a subordinarse al teniente a cargo de la expedición. Algunos documentos relacionados con este episodio se encuentran en un legajo de la Serie Gobierno del Archivo Histórico de la Provincia de Córdoba, junto con un expediente anterior, pero que también atañe a dicho funcionario y a las milicias de la jurisdicción. Partiendo de ese episodio, este trabajo tiene un doble objetivo: por un lado, analizamos el levantamiento a partir de la lectura minuciosa de las fuentes, buscando explicar las diferentes aristas –políticas, socioeconómicas e interétnicas– del conflicto. Por otro lado, presentamos una reflexión metodológica sobre los documentos utilizados, señalando algunas cuestiones sobre su formato, su agrupamiento en el legajo y sobre ciertos desafíos que conlleva el trabajo de campo en los archivos históricos.
