The incorporation of different judicial documents into historical research has led to reflect on their potentialities and limitations, as well as the care that must be taken when approaching their analysis. Precisely, in this historiographic line the present work is inscribed, which focuses its gaze on a little-explored source such as the books of Agreements and Sentences of the Court of Appeal of the province of Buenos Aires. In the light of our own research experience, it is our intention to reflect on the possibilities that these documents offer to understand the administration of justice and also to unravel some reasons that explain the changes they experienced in terms of their richness as a judicial source. En las últimas décadas se ha recurrido con frecuencia a la consulta de archivos judiciales con el propósito de abordar múltiples temáticas desde variadas perspectivas. La incorporación de distintos documentos judiciales a la investigación histórica ha llevado a reflexionar sobre sus potencialidades y limitaciones, así como los cuidados que hay que tener al abordar su análisis. Precisamente, en esta línea historiográfica se inscribe el presente trabajo que centra la mirada en una fuente escasamente explorada como son los Libros de sentencias de las Cámaras de Apelación de la provincia de Buenos Aires. A la luz de nuestra propia experiencia de investigación, es nuestra intención no solo reflexionar acerca de las posibilidades que estos documentos brindan para conocer la administración de justicia, sino también desentrañar algunas razones que explican los cambios que experimentaron en cuanto a su riqueza como fuente judicial.
