It represented the position of its printing institution, the National University of Tucumán (UNT), whose purpose was to influence the official sugar policy. His interpretations were from a Peronist ideological perspective. However, some differences are noted with respect to the official policy, evidencing a certain degree of autonomy. All this makes Trópico a source of relevance, since it allows studying the position of an actor, the UNT, which was not considered in previous studies. El artículo estudia las características del diario Trópico de Tucumán, a fin de evaluar sus potencialidades como fuente para el estudio de la política azucarera peronista (1947-1950). Sostenemos que este fue un medio oficialista que analizó con atención los temas de la industria azucarera. Estos análisis representaban la postura de su institución editora, la Universidad Nacional de Tucumán (UNT), cuyo fin era influir en la política oficial azucarera. Si bien sus exámenes fueron desde una perspectiva ideológica peronista, en ocasiones se advierten algunas diferencias respecto a la política oficial. Todo esto convierte a Trópico en una fuente de relevancia, ya que permite estudiar la posición de un actor, la UNT, que no fue tenido en cuenta en los estudios sobre el tema.
