In May of this year, the World Health Organisation advised against the consumption of sweeteners for the purpose of controlling body weight or reducing the risk of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The recommendation is based on the results of a systematic review of the available evidence, which suggests that the use of sweeteners does not confer any long-term benefits.
