Sumario:Historical archives without intending to, invariably refer to the history of architecture, since it is part of the evolutionary process of humanity and its cultural development. Architecture transforms along with the society that creates it, hence the importance of historical documentation as it allows us to reconstruct this sociocultural process over time. Numerous archives, in addition to safeguarding valuable information on the historical evolution of society and its cultural, political or economic transformation, preserve documents that attest to the foundation and development of human settlements and their original architecture. The article addresses from a critical reflection, the importance of historical archives as documentation centers that allow the knowledge and reconstruction of the civil architecture of the New Spanish viceroyalty.
