Ortiz (1938-1940) to erode “patriotic fraud” and normalize the electoral practices of Argentina in the late thirties. It is presumed that the president had oriented his institutional project seeking a re-democratization of the political system and for that purpose he promoted federal interventions to some provinces with fraudulent practices. His policy against fraud caused an unprecedented political situation in the ruling coalition, support of the Executive, which was aggravated when the president took license in july 1940.  El objeto de este artículo es analizar la estrategia política del presidente Roberto M. Ortiz (1938-1940) para combatir el “fraude patriótico” y normalizar las prácticas electorales de la Argentina de fines de los años treinta. Se presume que el presidente orientó su proyecto institucional de una manera aperturista y en busca de la redemocratización del sistema político y por ello promovió intervenciones federales a las provincias con prácticas fraudulentas. Su política contra el fraude provocó una situación inédita de erosión de la coalición de partidos oficialistas, base de sustentación del Poder Ejecutivo, que se agravará con su ingreso en licencia en julio de 1940.
