On the contrary, through the analysis of Luis Cabrera de Córdoba’s historical works, it will be showed that Spanish theorists of history, as members of the court and royal employees, not only became extremely involved in current political debates, but also understood history as an essential tool to legitimate Monarchical state. In addition, we will explain the characteristics of this new kind of history, political and pragmatic, as the result of a complex peculiar appropriation process of different traditions by the Spanish authors. El objetivo de este trabajo es discutir el abordaje historiográfico que a veces se ha hecho de los teóricos españoles de la historia como intelectuales que permanecieron indiferentes a la realidad de su tiempo, centrándose exclusivamente en especulaciones filosóficas y cuestiones estilísticas. Por el contrario, a partir del análisis de la obra histórica de Luis Cabrera de Córdoba se muestra que los teóricos de la historia, como miembros de la corte y funcionarios de la corona, no sólo participaron activamente de los debates políticos de la época, sino que además se sirvieron de la historia como herramienta indispensable para la legitimación del Estado monárquico. Asimismo, explicaremos las características que adopta este nuevo tipo de historia, política y pragmática, como producto de un proceso complejo y bastante peculiar de apropiación de diferentes tradiciones por parte de los autores hispanos.
