Among the articles of this newspaper there can be found some of the most remarkable examples on the history of Spanish political journalism, whose early origins can be tracked down to the monarchical crisis generated by the Napoleonic invasion, attracting many writers into the realm of political thought and praxis. In this paper we focus on the analysis of the political articles of the first two editions, when published in Madrid (by Manuel Quintana) and Seville (by José Maria Blanco), identifying the authors as publishers who were building their arguments up during the conflictive development of events. Our main focus will be set on the pragmatic dimension of discourses, analyzing the political language available for the authors to use, in order to approach the articles published in the Semanario Patriótico as a set of responses to the political situation inaugurated by the so called Spanish Revolution of 1808. El Semanario Patriótico se publicó sucesivamente en Madrid, Sevilla y Cádiz entre 1808 y 1812. Sus artículos constituyen una de las piezas más emblemáticas de la historia del periodismo político español que nació con la crisis monárquica generada por la invasión napoleónica, momento en el cual muchos escritores se vieron arrastrados al terreno de la práctica y la reflexión política. En el presente trabajo nos centramos en el análisis de los artículos políticos de sus dos primeras épocas, la madrileña a cargo de Manuel Quintana y la sevillana a cargo de José María Blanco, identificando a estos autores como publicistas que iban construyendo sus argumentos durante el conflictivo desarrollo de los sucesos. En ese sentido, nuestro interés se posiciona en la dimensión pragmática del discurso y el análisis del lenguaje político disponible y utilizado por los actores, lo cual nos permite abordar los textos como un conjunto de respuestas a la situación política inaugurada por la denominada Revolución Española de 1808.
