Sumario:In this text, we try to account for the progress in the deconstruction of the phenomenon «caudillismo», analyzing the most important contributions made by political historiography in the lost 25 years. The evolutionist perspective abandoned, and greater emphasis on consensus have enabled significant progress in the understanding of politics in the first half of the nineteenth century, although try to point out some obstacles remaining to complete the dismantling of that cultural tradition.
