From these structural units, the elements of the skeleton, the scales, the teeth, as well as the odonton complexes, which include diverse tissues and derived organs, would have originated. Since there is a wide field of research on this subject, in this paper we have made a brief review of the most current concepts on the evolutionary origin of these elements, especially scales and teeth, with the purpose of making known the advances in the subject, since their scope and applications are of interest to several areas of knowledge, especially those related to health and education. Los estudios más recientes que explican el origen evolutivo del esqueleto dérmico de los vertebrados. se basan en criterios como el patrón estructural (anatómico e histológico) y embriológico de los odontones. A partir de estas unidades estructurales, se habrían originado los elementos de dicho esqueleto, las escamas, los dientes, corno así también, los complejos de odontones, que incluyen diversos tejidos y órganos derivados. Dado que existe un amplio campo de investigaciones al respecto, en este trabajo se realizó una breve revisión de los conceptos más actuales sobre el origen evolutivo de estos elementos, especialmente escamas y dientes, con el propósito de dar a conocer los avances en el lema. ya que por sus alcances y aplicaciones. interesan a diversas áreas del conocimiento, especialmente las relacionadas con la salud y la educación.
