This paper presents an analysis of basic university level textbooks on the development of wave optics. The study of texts is centered in the characterization of the progressive construction of the concepts of diffraction and interference. The analysis is complemented by a historical synthesis about the place of the phenomenon of diffraction in the construction of light models. The results allow comparing the approach from university texts with the genesis of the concepts of interference and diffraction in the science history. Finally, based on conclusions of both studies, a series of reflections on students difficulties about the paradigm shift between geometric optics and wave optics, are made. Este trabajo presenta un análisis de libros de texto de nivel universitario básico acerca del desarrollo de la óptica ondulatoria. El estudio de textos está centrado en la caracterización de la construcción progresiva de los conceptos de difracción e interferencia. El análisis se complementa con una síntesis histórica acerca del lugar que ocupa el fenómeno de la difracción en la construcción de los modelos sobre la luz. Los resultados permiten comparar el abordaje de la temática desde los textos universitarios con la génesis de los conceptos de interferencia y difracción en la historia de la ciencia. Por último, en base a los resultados encontrados, se realiza una serie de reflexiones acerca de las dificultades que refieren los estudiantes en el cambio de paradigma entre la óptica geométrica y la óptica ondulatoria.
