COMMERCIAL FLOWS IN THE RÍO DE LA PLATA BASIN (XIXth AND XXth CENTURIES). THEORETICAL-METHODOLOGICAL ESSAY FROM THE NETWORK PERSPECTIVES IN ARCHAEOLOGY

On this paper I will develop a theoretical and methodological approach to the spatial distribution of trade flows in the River Plate sector of River Plate Basin, from a network perspective. Based on the theoretical background of various disciplines, historiographic bibliography, and edict written so...

Based on the theoretical background of various disciplines, historiographic bibliography, and edict written sources, port-cities, among others, are defined as territorial nodes, whose links will be expressed on two comparative maps for the second half of XIXth c. and the beginnings of XXth c. From there, the general structure of this trade networks will be traced, highlighting the hegemony of the “River Plate trading complex” position during the study period. Finally, I’ll propose some future archaeological research lines, seeking to contribute to the analysis of material culture flows and consumption practices on the area, based on networks concepts.
