In the area surrounding Bayo Hill, in the Santa Cruz province, a serie of rock shelters and open-air sites have been identified. This sector is located in a strategic position between the mountainous region in the north of the province, and the western sector of the Deseado Massif. From a geographical point of view, it can be thought of as a connecting space between both regions. In addition, it is located in the vicinity of two areas of great importance for regional archaeology; Pampa del Asador and the Pinturas River basin. This study presents the first body of data generated from the work carried out at the Cerro Bayo 2. Although the results are preliminary, it was possible to obtain a closer understanding of the site’s chronology and occupational History. Different lines of evidence enabled the elaboration of some conclusions regarding the activities, and its link with nearby areas. At the same time, It was possible to discuss its use throughout time, and within a broader regional scale. |

En el sector del Cerro Bayo, en la provincia de Santa Cruz, se identificó un conjunto de sitios en aleros y a cielo abierto. Esta zona se ubica en una posición estratégica entre la región cordillerana del norte de la provincia y el sector oeste del Macizo del Deseado. Desde el punto de vista geográfico, puede ser pensada como un espacio de conexión entre ambas regiones. Además, se encuentra en cercanía de dos áreas de gran importancia para la arqueología regional; Pampa del Asador y la cuenca del Río Pinturas. En este estudio se presenta el primer cuerpo de datos generado a partir de los trabajos llevados a cabo en el sitio Cerro Bayo 2. Si bien los resultados son de carácter preliminar, se pudieron hacer algunos acercamientos cronológicos y sobre la historia ocupacional del sitio. A partir del análisis de diferentes líneas de evidencia, se llegaron a conclusiones acerca de las actividades que se desarrollaron en el sitio y su vinculación con áreas cercanas. No setor de Cerro Bayo, na província de Santa Cruz, foi identificado um grupo de locais em balanço e ao ar livre. Esta área está localizada em uma posição estratégica entre a região montanhosa no norte da província e o setor ocidental do Maciço Deseado. Do ponto de vista geográfico, ela pode ser pensada como um espaço de conexão entre ambas as regiões. Além disso, está próximo a duas áreas de grande importância para a arqueologia regional: Pampa del Asador e a bacia do Rio Pinturas. Este estudo apresenta o primeiro conjunto de dados gerados a partir do trabalho realizado no local do Cerro Bayo 2. Embora os resultados sejam preliminares, alguns antecedentes cronológicos e ocupacionais do local poderiam ser abordados. A partir da análise de diferentes linhas de evidência, chegou-se a conclusões sobre as atividades que ocorreram no local e suas ligações com áreas próximas. Centro de Estudios Históricos.
