Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC) is the second most common primary neoplasm of the skin. It is associated with multiple risk factors, the main one being exposure to UV radiation. Numerous studies show that the greater presence of dendritic cells (DC) and, specifically, Langerhans cells (LC) in neoplasms of other locations is related to beneficial prognostic factors. The potential of DCs to amplify antigen-specific immune responses has been shown to make them candidates for cancer immunotherapy. These can be studied by immunohistochemistry with staining for S100 and CD1a. The objective is to study the correlation between the density of dendritic cells and the degree of differentiation of CSCC to estimate the course and prognosis.
All CSCC cases (n=14) belonged to the period 2017-2022 and the sampling was non-probability for convenience. Staining with H/E and immunohistochemical technique with S100 were performed. Multiple variables of prognostic relevance, which are related to biological behavior, and its comparison with the number of CDs, were analyzed using statistical analysis with Infostat software (frequency distribution, position and dispersion measures, and Fischer-Chi square test).
It was seen that the higher the number of DCs, the tumors were more differentiated (p=0.0029) and presented less tumor necrosis (p=0.05).
The study carried out supports previous analyzes reported in the literature, which show that the greater the number of dendritic cells in the tumor microenvironment, the better the differentiation of CCECs, being a favorable prognostic factor. |

El carcinoma de células escamosas cutáneo (CCEC) es la segunda neoplasia primaria más frecuente de la piel. Se asocia a múltiples factores de riesgo siendo el principal la exposición a la radiación UV. Numerosos estudios demuestran que la mayor presencia de células dendríticas (CD) y, en específico, las células de Langerhans (CL) en las neoplasias de otras localizaciones se relaciona con factores pronósticos beneficiosos. Se ha visto que el potencial de las CD para amplificar la respuesta inmune antígeno específica las hace candidatas para inmunoterapia contra el cáncer. Estas pueden ser estudiadas por inmunohistoquímica con tinción para S100 y CD1a. El objetivo es estudiar el nivel de correlación entre la densidad de las células dendríticas y el grado de diferenciación de los carcinomas de células escamosas cutáneo para estimar la evolución y el pronóstico. Se estudiaron todos los casos de CCEC (n 14), entre 2017 y 2022. Se realizaron coloraciones con H/E y técnica de inmunohistoquímica con S100. Se analizaron múltiples variables de relevancia epidemiológica, clínicas e histopatológicas, que se relacionan con la conducta bilógica y se compararon con el número de CD, utilizando análisis estadístico con software Infostat (distribución de frecuencias, medidas de posición y dispersión, y prueba de Fischer- Chi cuadrado). Se vio que a mayor número de CD los tumores fueron más diferenciados (p=0,0029) y presentaban menos necrosis tumoral (p=0,05). El estudio realizado apoya análisis previos reportados en la literatura, que muestran que la disminución en el número de células dendríticas en el microambiente tumoral le permite a los carcinomas de células escamosas cutáneos desarrollarse y crecer, generando una menor diferenciación de los mismos, siendo esto un factor pronóstico negativo.
