In this context in which hybridity is a reality whose present seems to persist in frontiers that get blurred, but which are also preserved at the same time, we will explore those aspects related to translation within the context of hybridity and the role of the translator as an intermediary committed to both languages, in the light of the emergent linguistic policies of recent decades. It is relevant to notice that the written Spanish variant used in the USA to inform and communicate is to a very large extent a mere product of translation. Given the growing number of Spanish-speaking individuals and, consequently, the exponential increase in the use of Spanish, we find a singular scenario where translation studies, which lack theoretical and empirical research, just focus on the reality of a language that evolves within a bilingual society like the USA at present. We gather that translation as a discipline that tensely operates between the borders of these two cultures must respond with relevant criteria and strategies to the communicative needs of those who inhabit those spaces. En los últimos 30 años se ha observado un intenso fenómeno migratorio de la población hispanohablante de México y el Caribe hacia los EUA, puesto de manifiesto en la cultura y en la lengua de ambas comunidades en contacto, y que ha traído consigo el crecimiento de la población de origen hispano en los EUA. En este marco en que la hibridación es una realidad cuyo presente parece persistir en fronteras que se diluyen y se preservan a la vez, abordaremos los aspectos ligados a la traducción dentro del entorno de hibridismo y el papel del traductor como mediador comprometido entre ambas lenguas de trabajo, a la luz de las políticas lingüísticas emergentes en las décadas recientes. Resulta relevante que el español escrito que se usa en los EUA para informar y comunicar es en vastísima medida un mero producto de la traducción. Dado el creciente número de hispanohablantes y por ende el aumento exponencial en el uso del español, emerge este singular escenario, en que los estudios de traducción, carentes de investigación teórica y empírica, solo se centran en la realidad de una lengua que evoluciona dentro de una sociedad bilingüe como es EUA en la actualidad. Entendemos que la traducción como disciplina que opera en la brecha entre estas dos culturas en tensión debe responder con criterios y estrategias que sean relevantes a las necesidades comunicativas de los sujetos que habitan estos espacios.
