We Argentines owe a great deal to the enterprising genius of this noble martyr who was Dr. Francisco Javier Muñiz, and I have therefore wanted to evoke some aspects of his exemplary life, since his figure acquired such extraordinary merits. At the distance of the years, his outstanding performance may appear somewhat confused or diluted, so it is necessary to clearly agree on it so that there is no doubt about his venerable memory and be rightly admired by generations. I have had the good fortune to have at my disposal for my researches the valuable archives in the possession of the illustrious naturalist's relatives, who have also provided me with numerous data that complement and clarify it. I must, therefore, honestly declare that my task would have been incomplete had it not been for this special circumstance. Al dar término a esta breve semblanza del primer naturalista argentino, al par ·que notable y abnegado médico-higienista, veo cumplida una de mis más caras aspiraciones. Es mucho lo que los argentinos debemos al genio emprendedor de este noble mártir que fue el doctor Francisco Javier Muñiz, y he querido evocar por ello siquiera algunos aspectos de su vida ejemplar, ya que su figura adquirió méritos tan extraordinarios. A la distancia de los años, su actuación destacada puede aparecer un tanto confusa o diluida, por lo que es necesario concertarla claramente para que no quede duda alguna sobre su, recuerdo venerable y sea justamente admirado por las generaciones. He tenido la suerte de disponer para mis búsquedas del va-lioso archivo que poseen los familiares del ilustre naturalista, quienes me han facilitado, además, numerosos datos que lo complementan y aclaran. Debo, pues, declarar honradamente que mi tarea hubiera resultado incompleta de no mediar esta circunstancia especial.
