However, recently, the archives are playing a new role: the social one. This role brings people closer together which allows to improve different aspects of our society and it helps us promote a different organisation and description of documentary archive. Therefore, the Municipal Archive of Lloret de Mar has introduced different initiatives in order to make the documents more accessible for the citizens. Firstly, it has encouraged the creation of the group Friends of Archive which helps to describe and document the preserved images in our facilities. At the same time Friends of Archive has contributed to the protection of our documentary heritage. Secondly, the Archive has decided to start using the social networks so as to interact with other sectors of the population. Finally, the Municipal Archive of Lloret de Mar has organised a program, named “Intersectionality and archives”, with the purpose of ensuring visibility to silenced memory of different minorities such as women, migrants, gender and sexual diverse people, as well as disabled people. With no doubt, these initiatives have brought the Archive closer to the citizens and these actions have helped to enrich our documentary heritage. Key words: Archive; Social role; citizen participation; social networks; intersectionality Actualmente, la ciudadanía relaciona el mundo de los archivos con dos funciones principales: la cultural y la administrativa. Pero, recientemente, se está desplegando en los archivos una nueva función, la social, que nos aproxima a las personas, que nos permite mejorar diferentes aspectos de nuestra sociedad y que promueve una organización y una descripción diferente de los fondos documentales. Es por ese motivo que, con la finalidad de acercar y difundir los archivos a la sociedad, el Servei d’Arxiu Municipal de Lloret de Mar ha impulsado distintas iniciativas. Primeramente, ha estimulado la formación del Grupo de Amigos del Archivo que facilita la descripción y documentación de las imágenes conservadas en sus instalaciones y colabora en la protección del patrimonio documental. En segundo lugar, ha decidido incorporarse al uso de las redes sociales mediante la aplicación de una estructura de secciones informativas, con el objetivo de interactuar con amplios sectores de la población. Y finalmente, ha dispuesto el programa “Interseccionalidad y archivos” con la intención de dar visibilidad a la memoria silenciada de los colectivos minorizados: la mujer; los migrantes; las minorías sexuales y de género; y el colectivo de personas con diversidad funcional. Sin duda, estas iniciativas acercan los archivos a la ciudadanía y ayudan a enriquecer nuestro patrimonio documental.
