Based on the analysis of the films ¿A dónde van nuestros hijos? (1959) and Rojo amanecer (1989), and contrasting with official discourses on housing in superblocks disseminated by the architects and promoters of such projects, I propose that the analyzed films dismantle the hegemonic meanings of inhabiting, giving rise to counter-hegemonic visions of life inside a mass housing complex of Mexican modernity. Este artículo analiza dos películas que, en momentos distintos de la historia de la vivienda de masas en la Ciudad de México, iluminan problemáticas sobre la vida al interior de un par de conjuntos habitacionales construidos por el Estado: el CUPA y Tlatelolco, ambas obras del arquitecto Mario Pani. A partir del análisis de las películas ¿A dónde van nuestros hijos? (1959) y Rojo amanecer (1989), y contrastando con discursos oficiales en torno a la vivienda en superbloques difundidos por los arquitectos y promotores de estos dos proyectos arquitectónicos, propongo que las películas analizadas desarticulan los significados hegemónicos del habitar dando lugar a visiones contra hegemónicas de la vida en el interior de los multifamiliares de la modernidad mexicana.
