At that time they had just taken me as University Lecturer in the Department, and you had just returned after several years abroad and had begun your studies in Social Anthropology. I don't remember when you were in the race when we met, and if you had already started your postgraduate studies. This left me completely, probably because it was in the 70s, a timely time for deep political commitment and for criticism of the traditional program and courses of the Department. It was a time when studies and politics and general sociability were closely linked, and we, who at that time belonged to the extreme left, spent time in continuous discussions about absolutely everything, and the issue of who received when and with what exams were issues totally subordinate to all those things that involved us.

Trataré de presentar una imagen de tus primeros años en la Universidad de Oslo, principalmente en lo concerniente a tu tesis de Magistergrad en Antropología Social, que presentaste en 1978. No recuerdo exactamente cuándo fue que te encontré por primera vez, pero debió ser varios años antes, probablemente a principios de los 1970s. En ese entonces me acababan de tomar como University Lecturer en el Departamento, y tú acababas de regresar después de varios años en el exterior y habías empezado tus estudios en Antropología Social. No me acuerdo en qué momento de la Carrera estabas cuando nos conocimos, y si ya habías empezado tus estudios de posgrado. Esto se me fue por completo, probablemente porque fue en los 70s, una época oportuna para el compromiso político profundo y para la crítica del programa tradicional y de los cursos del Departamento. Era un tiempo en que los estudios y la política y la sociabilidad general estaban estrechamente unidas, y nosotros, que por aquella época pertenecíamos a la extrema izquierda, pasábamos el tiempo en continuos debates acerca de absolutamente todo, y el tema de quién se recibía cuándo y con qué exámenes eran cuestiones totalmente subordinadas a todas esas cosas que nos involucraban. Tentarei apresentar uma imagem de seus primeiros anos na Universidade de Oslo, principalmente em relação à sua tese de mestrado em Antropologia Social, que você apresentou em 1978. Não me lembro exatamente quando foi o primeiro contato com você, mas deve ter se passado vários anos antes, provavelmente no início dos anos 70. Naquela época, eles acabaram de me escolher como professor universitário no Departamento, e você acabou de voltar depois de vários anos no exterior e começou seus estudos em Antropologia Social. Não me lembro de quando você estava na corrida quando nos conhecemos e se já havia iniciado seus estudos de pós-graduação. Isso me deixou completamente, provavelmente porque era nos anos 70, um momento oportuno para um profundo compromisso político e para críticas ao programa e cursos tradicionais do Departamento. Era uma época em que os estudos, a política e a sociabilidade geral estavam intimamente ligados, e nós, que naquela época pertenciamos à extrema esquerda, passávamos tempo em discussões contínuas sobre absolutamente tudo, e a questão de quem recebia quando e com que exames eram questões totalmente subordinadas a todas as coisas que nos envolviam.
