| Sumario: | This article summarizes the history of Famatina mines (La Rioja) extracting the content of the second edition of the book La Minería del Famatina (La Rioja, Argentina), edited by the author that was presented in V CAHGEO held in Córdoba. The most remarkable aspects of the book are emphasized and the traditional belief of Famatina as inexhaustible source of metals whoseexploitation would develop La Rioja province is refuted. Description covers the district of La Mejicana and neighbouring areas, in whichthe most significant mining work took place. Due that 19th, 20th and 21st centuries have provided more information that earlier years, agreater attention is paid to their events, analyzing the causes that led to disaster of the late and more technical exploitations, which wereworked in the most advantageous conditions, at least theoretically. |
