The academics -as members of a professional community- are fundamental actors of the university system since its members develop the functions of teaching, research, extension and they are part of the government of public universities. However, the research background recognizes that, both in Argentina and in Latin America, the academic profession develops in a problematic scenario due to multiple factors that especially affect to the assistant professors. The present study is part of the international research APIKS (Academic Profession in the Knowledge-Based Society) that is being carried out in more than 30 countries on all continents. The methodological design involved the application of a self-administered survey to a representative sample of professors from national universities in Argentina. Based on the results of the study, the magnitude of certain problems that affect the development of academic functions in Argentine national universities can be quantitatively dimensioned, and the opinion of academics about working conditions can also be known. This article is expected to contribute to the design of university policies aimed at strengthening the general conditions of academic work. |

Los académicos -como miembros de una comunidad profesional- son actores fundamentales de la Universidad ya que desarrollan las funciones de enseñanza, investigación, extensión y gestión en las universidades públicas. Sin embargo, los antecedentes de investigación reconocen que, tanto en Argentina como en América Latina, la profesión académica se desarrolla en un escenario problemático debido a múltiples factores que afectan especialmente a los auxiliares docentes. El presente estudio se enmarca en la investigación internacional APIKS (Academic Profession in the Knowledge-Based Society La Profesión Académica en la Sociedad del Conocimiento-) que se está llevando a cabo en más de 30 países de todos los continentes. El diseño metodológico implicó la aplicación de una encuesta autoadministrada a una muestra representativa de profesores de universidades nacionales de Argentina. A partir de los resultados del estudio, se podrá dimensionar cuantitativamente la magnitud de ciertos problemas que afectan el desarrollo de las funciones académicas en las universidades nacionales argentinas y, asimismo, se podrá conocer la opinión de los académicos acerca de las condiciones laborales. Se espera que este artículo contribuya al diseño de políticas universitarias orientadas a fortalecer las condiciones generales del trabajo académico. Os académicos - como membros de uma comunidade profissional - são atores fundamentais da universidade, pois seus membros desenvolvem as funções de ensino, pesquisa, extensão e fazem parte do governo das universidades. No entanto, os antecedentes da pesquisa reconhecem que, tanto na Argentina quanto na América Latina, a profissão acadêmica se desenvolve em um cenário problemático devido a múltiplos fatores que afetam especialmente os professores assistentes. O presente estudo faz parte da pesquisa internacional APIKS (Academic Profession in the Knowledge-Based Society) que está sendo realizada em mais de 30 países em todos os continentes. O desenho metodológico envolveu a aplicação de uma pesquisa autoaplicável a uma amostra representativa de professores de universidades nacionais da Argentina. Com base nos resultados do estudo, a magnitude de certos problemas que afetam o desenvolvimento das funções acadêmicas nas universidades nacionais argentinas pode ser dimensionada quantitativamente, e a opinião dos acadêmicos sobre as condições de trabalho também pode ser conhecida. Espera-se que este artigo contribua para o desenho de políticas universitárias destinadas a fortalecer as condições gerais do trabalho acadêmico.
