A rupture of the boundaries between the traditional city and the large countryside extensions surrounding it is identified. This results from the transformation of boundaries into a new in-between cities -or intermediate- landscape which has the dual condition of preserving both urban and rural characteristics. Starting from a bibliographical review of the state of the art dealing with the accelerated metamorphosis of the in-between cities landscape in metropolitan areas, the Metropolitan Region of Rosario is analysed. Our study is focused on three territorial areas of this region which embody contemporary processes of metropolisation. Critical thinking about the transformations of our territories and their ongoing processes gives rise to new perspectives that may allow the development of new tools for action enabling to intervene in contemporary landscapes. Especialmente desde las últimas décadas del siglo XX, se registra un incremento acelerado del proceso de metropolización, que genera una profunda transformación en las estructuras tradicionales de la interfase urbano-rural, dado que se establecen nuevas lógicas de la extensión territorial y de sus dinámicas intervinientes. Se identifica una ruptura de los límites entre la ciudad tradicional y las grandes extensiones de campo que la circundan; ya que, dichos límites se han transformado en un nuevo paisaje -paisajes entre-ciudades o paisajes intermedios-, que presentan la condición dual de conservar características tanto urbanas como rurales. Partiendo de una revisión bibliográfica sobre el estado de la cuestión acerca de la acelerada metamorfosis de los paisajes entre-ciudades en los ámbitos metropolitanos, realizamos un análisis particularizado sobre la Región Metropolitana de Rosario (RMR). Nos focalizamos en el estudio de tres fragmentos territoriales de esta región, que resultan representativos de los procesos contemporáneos de metropolización. Pensar críticamente las transformaciones de nuestros territorios y de sus procesos en curso, nos abre nuevas perspectivas que nos pueden permitir desarrollar nuevas herramientas de actuación para intervenir en los paisajes contemporáneos.
