The study of these problems allows us to understand the limits to the gender roles associated with female activity in wartime during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. El artículo examina, desde la perspectiva de la historia cultural de la guerra, el rol desempeñado por las mujeres chilenas en la Guerra del Pacífico (1879-1883) y el reconocimiento social de sus acciones. El trabajo examina el impacto de las mujeres en el imaginario nacionalista de la guerra y su incorporación en el culto a los héroes en los años de la posguerra. El estudio de estos problemas nos permite comprender los límites a los roles de género asociados a la actividad femenina en tiempos de guerra durante el siglo XIX e inicios del XX.
