This article studies segregation and gender inequality in the labor market of Santiago del Estero during the period 2010-2022. Based on the analysis of census data of 2010 and 2022, the Duncan Segregation Index and the Lorenz Curve are applied to observe how men and women are distributed, concentrated, and participate across different sectors of the economic activity, as well as in the main demographic indicators of the province. The results show an increase in female concentration in historically female-dominated sectors, indicating that patterns of inequality continue to structure the labor market with little progress as to reaching gender equality. The article demonstrates that this horizontal segregation is driven by deeply rooted, sociocultural factors that are beyond the cyclical economic dynamics. It provides an empirical contribution to a peripheral Argentine province, characterized by traditional conservative features, suggesting that over the period, despite the labor policies implemented, gender disparities that structure the labor market, have not been reversed yet. |

El presente artículo examina la segregación y desigualdad de género que se presenta en el mercado laboral de Santiago del Estero durante el periodo 2010-2022. A partir del análisis de datos censales 2010 y 2022, se aplican el Índice de Duncan y la Curva de Lorenz para observar cómo se distribuyen, concentran y participan varones y mujeres entre los distintos sectores de la actividad económica, así como también lo hacen en los principales indicadores demográficos de la provincia. Los resultados manifiestan que hubo un aumento en la concentración femenina en sectores históricamente feminizados, es decir que la persistencia de patrones de desigualdad siguen estructurando el mercado laboral sin mayores conquistas en igualdad de género. El artículo sostiene que esta segregación horizontal responde a factores sociales y culturales -profundamente arraigados-, más allá de las dinámicas económicas coyunturales. El mismo resulta un aporte empírico en una provincia periférica argentina, signada por rezagos estructurales (poco explorada), dejando entrever que a lo largo del período más allá de las políticas laborales implementadas no se ha logrado revertir las brechas de género que estructuran el mercado laboral. Este artigo examina a dinâmica da segregação e desigualdade de gênero no mercado de trabalho de Santiago del Estero durante a última década do século XXI. Com base na análise dos dados censitários de 2010 e 2022, aplicam-se o Índice de Duncan e a Curva de Lorenz para avaliar a distribuição de homens e mulheres entre diferentes ramos de atividade econômica. Os resultados mostram uma concentração crescente de mulheres em setores historicamente feminilizados, destacando a persistência de padrões estruturais de desigualdade. Argumenta-se que essa segmentação ocupacional decorre de fatores sociais e culturais profundamente enraizados, além das dinâmicas econômicas temporárias. O artigo apresenta evidências empíricas de uma província argentina periférica marcada pelo subdesenvolvimento estrutural, sugerindo que as políticas implementadas ao longo do período não conseguiram reverter as disparidades de gênero no emprego.
