The recourse to the concepts that Gramsci developed in prison, became tools that tried to cover the potholes that the investigation -until then- had not been able to overcome. A review of the production of Waldo Ansaldi and Murmis y Portantiero will also contribute to pointing out some interpretation guidelines that still survive today. En el presente artículo se busca reflexionar sobre las categorías gramscianas utilizadas para analizar momentos fundamentales de la historia argentina de los siglos XIX y XX por obra de sociólogos que buscaron dar respuesta a algunos de los problemas de interpretación historiográficos que han generado y siguen generando debates en torno a procesos claves como ser la formación de la unidad nacional y la resolución de la crisis que se abre a partir de 1929, en el que las formas de dominación dan paso a momentos de reconfiguración de diversas relaciones. El recurso a los conceptos que Gramsci desarrolló en la cárcel, se convirtieron en herramientas que trataron de cubrir los baches que la investigación -hasta dichos momentos- no había podido superar. Un repaso sobre la producción de Waldo Ansaldi y de Murmis y Portantiero, contribuirá, además, a señalar algunos lineamientos de interpretación que en la actualidad perviven.
