| Sumario: | The Jesuit Nicolás del Techo, a missionary in Paraguay, was commissioned by the General of the Society of Jesus to write an official history of this Province in the mid-17th century. Printed in 1673 in Liège, his book was intended to promote the work of the Jesuits and awake vocations in Europe. In the mid-18th century, Guarani indigenous scholars of the missions began translating it into their own language. We will show that this translation, which has never been examined, differs radically from the source text and intends objectives that serve the Guarani of the missions, highlighting their identity as both Indigenous and Christian. |
