The tocuirico/tocricoc expressed the logics of a prehispanic empire that needed efficient systems of surveillance and control. In this article, we explore the different references concerning its function and the political translations we obtain from colonial documents. We analyse diachronically the attempts to translate the term tocuirico/tocricoc by emphasizing the function as a judge, inspector (visitador), governor, supervisor (veedor) and chief magistrate (Corregidor). In this way, and beyond its literal translation, we speculate on the need of its colonial restitution as a part of the respect for the traditional Inca constitutions (fueros) and laws which pursued the goal of achieving good government and policy in the Kingdoms of Peru. A su llegada al Perú, variados agentes peninsulares hicieron legible la existencia de un cargo admistrativo incaico de importancia. El tocuirico/tocricoc expresó las lógicas de un imperio prehispánico que necesitaba de eficaces aparatos de vigilancia y control. En este artículo, se explora sobre las distintas referencias a su función y las traducciones políticas que permite la documentación colonial. Analizamos diacrónicamente los esfuerzos de traducir la voz tocuirico/trocricoc destacando su función como juez, visitador, gobernador, veedor y corregidor. En este sentido, y más allá de su traducción literal, conjeturamos acerca de la necesidad de su restitución colonial como parte del respeto a los fueros y leyes del inca con fines de asentar el buen gobierno y la policía en los reinos del Perú. Ao chegarem ao Peru, vários agentes peninsulares tornaram legível a existência de um cargo administrativo incaico de importância. O tocuirico/tocricoc expressava a lógica de um império pré-hispânico que precisava de aparatos eficazes de vigilância e controle. Neste artigo, exploramos as diferentes referências à sua função e as traduções políticas que a documentação colonial permite. Analisamos diacronicamente os esforços para traduzir a palavra tocuirico/trocricoc, destacando sua função como juiz, visitador, governador, fiscal e corregedor. Nesse sentido, e além de sua tradução literal, conjecturamos sobre a necessidade de sua restituição colonial como parte do respeito aos privilégios e leis do Inca, com o objetivo de estabelecer o bom governo e a polícia nos reinos do Peru.
