These meetings sought to strengthen ties between the local community and the migrant one. This article is part of ongoing postdoctoral research and aims to analyze three dimensions of these intercultural meetings: their situated historicity; the link between university and migrant community; and the role of civil associations as promoters of linguistic and cultural education. The method is based on the triangulation of the results from three qualitative data collection techniques: in-depth interview with key informant, participant observations and field diaries. Two key issues are discussed: the strengths and limitations of these meetings in promoting real changes in the daily experience of migrants and natives, and the practice of critical extension as a form of insurgent pedagogy that promotes changes in individual identities as well as broader community subjectivity. Likewise, the potential of critical interculturality in the transformation of education is shown.
