EL sorprendente protagonismo de las mujeres en el libro 1 de Ab urbe condita se evidencia en la notable e inusual acumulación de figuras femeninas que intervienen de manera activa en los sucesos narrados y en la frecuencia con que ellas generan situaciones dialógicas de interlocutor masculino con fines persuasivos. El estudio de dichas situaciones permite demostrar que se trata de un recurso empleado para configurar, por semejanza o por contraste, la identidad del varón romano de la elite.
