It advances the hypothesis that Kant subordinates the free and vitalizing character of aesthetic play to the requirement of its harmonious alignment with the fundamental structure of judgment. By examining this procedure, we argue that the harmonious conception of play operates on the basis of a restricted freedom—a restriction that extends into Kant’s political thought, rendering the concept complicit with political and social mechanisms of discipline and subjectivation. The analysis focuses on three key moments in the Critique of Judgment where Kant examines the relationship between the faculties of the transcendental subject: aesthetic judgment concerning the beautiful, the sublime, and aesthetic ideas. This examination aims to demonstrate how the vitalizing force of the imagination is incorporated into Kantian aesthetics only in specific, circumscribed ways. Finally, the article engages critically with contemporary reinterpretations of Kant’s concept of play, arguing for the importance of a discordant conception of play in order to fully grasp the critical potential of aesthetic experience. El artículo propone analizar críticamente la concepción armónica de juego estético en Kant. Se trabaja sobre la hipótesis de que Kant subordina el carácter libre del juego estético, su carácter vivificante, bajo el requisito de su coincidencia armónica con la estructura fundamental del juicio. Atendiendo a ese procedimiento es posible sostener que la concepción armónica del juego opera sobre la base de una libertad restringida, cuya extensión al pensamiento político kantiano, lo vuelve un concepto solidario con los procedimientos políticos y sociales de disciplinamiento y subjetivación. El desarrollo del artículo se basa en el análisis de tres momentos fundamentales de la Crítica de la facultad de juzgar en los que Kant aborda la relación entre las facultades del sujeto trascendental: el juicio estético sobre lo bello, sobre lo sublime y las ideas estéticas. Esto con la intención de mostrar el modo en que el carácter vivificante de la imaginación es incorporado por la estética kantiana sólo en determinados aspectos o momentos fundamentales. Finalmente se realizan ciertos señalamientos críticos sobre algunas actualizaciones del concepto de juego kantiano, para sostener la importancia de una concepción discordante de juego para pensar los alcances críticos de la experiencia estética.
