However, it constitutes a testimony of the propaedeutic function that his mathematics has in relation to his speculative writings, especially the theological ones. Nicholas takes there as the starting point the methods of solving the quadrature of the circle exposed in De mathematicis complementis and turns to a proposal that advances the developments of De visione Dei. In this sense, the theological complements offer a paradigmatic example of the symbolic use of mathematics in Cusanus’ metaphysics. De theologicis complementis no ha tenido el mismo éxito que otras obras cusanas. Sin embargo, constituye un testimonio privilegiado de la función propedéutica que la matemática cusana tiene en relación con los escritos especulativos, sobre todo, los teológicos. Nicolás parte allí, en efecto, de los métodos de solución de la cuadratura del círculo expuestos en De mathematicis complementis y se dirige a una propuesta que adelanta los desarrollos de De visione Dei.
