description This paper addresses the written documentary sources produced by soldiers and explorers who traveled across the northern border of the province of Santa Fe between 1855 and 1865. The aim is to identify and analyze the way in which the data on the Mocoví, Abipones and Tobas was constructed. During this period, the provincial and national governments planned and executed advance policies on the southern territory of the Chaco region. The exploration of the waterways of communication was accompanied by the reorganization of the military enclaves and the foundation of new missions. These initiatives produced new documentation on the movements, locations and names of different indigenous groups that inhabited a wide territory that extended from the western bank of the Paraná River, west through the province of Santa Fe,northeast of Córdoba and Southeast of Santiago del Estero.

Este artículo aborda las fuentes documentales escritas producidas por militares y exploradores que transitaron la frontera norte de la provincia de Santa Fe durante el decenio de 1855-1865;el objetivo es identificar y analizar la forma en la que fueron construidos los datos sobre las poblaciones indígenas mocovíes, abipones y tobas. En este periodo los gobiernos provincial y nacional planificaron y ejecutaron políticas de avance sobre el territorio austral de la región del Chaco. La exploración de las vías fluviales de comunicación fue acompañada de la reorganización de los enclaves militares y la fundación de nuevas misiones. Estas iniciativas produjeron documentación sobre los movimientos, localizaciones y nombres de diferentes grupos indígenas que habitaban un amplio territorio que se extendía desde la banda occidental del río Paraná, hacia el oeste por la Provincia de Santa Fe, noreste de la Provincia de Córdoba y sudeste de la Provincia de Santiago del Estero. Neste artigo proponho abordar as fontes documentais escritas produzidas por soldados e exploradores que percorreram a fronteira norte da província de Santa Fé durante a década de 1855 a 1865, a fim de identificar e analisar a forma como os Dados sobre o Mocoví , populações indígenas Abipones e Tobas. Durante este período, os governos provinciais e nacionais planejaram e executaram políticas avançadas no território sul da região do Chaco. A exploração das vias navegáveis ​​de comunicação foi acompanhada pela reorganização dos enclaves militares e pela fundação de novas missões.
