First, the text will consider the critical situation of the Church at that time, and its relation with the need to reform. Secondly, it will specify the content of the reform, and the need to overcame the critic of the abuses of the clergy as its main topic. Thus, we will address Díaz de Luco’s perception of the difficulties of his time, as well as the extent and limitations of acting according to ancient ecclesiastical models.  Juan Bernal Díaz de Luco (1495-1556) fue uno de los más conocidos promotores de la reforma eclesiástica y religiosa en la España de Carlos V. Este artículo se ocupa de precisar algunos de los puntos alrededor de los cuales giran sus propuestas de reforma. Por una parte, se mostrará el carácter crítico alrededor del cual giraba la necesidad de la reforma de la Iglesia en sus escritos. Por otra parte, se precisará el contenido de esta reforma y la necesidad de desplazar cierta visión de esta última limitada a la sola crítica de los abusos del clero.
