Censusesand registers of late colonial population addressed mainly through qualitative methodology were the basic sources of the present research. Other documents, such as mercedes (rights to land), civil conflicts andvisitas (inquiries) to the indigenous population, have also been used. The combined approach of ethnohistory, anthropology and social history kindled the interaction between diverse scales of analysis-the theoretical axis of the investigation-, and the dialogue with the prehispanic past and the agrarian political problems, key to both the regional historiography of the 19th century and our present. El artículo se ocupa de la metodología y la articulación interdisciplinaria -entre historia y antropología- que orientaron una investigación en curso sobre Los Llanos de La Rioja. Fuentes principales de esta investigaciónhan sido censos y padrones de población tardocoloniales, abordados fundamentalmente a partir de metodologías cualitativas, además de otros documentos tales como mercedes de tierras, conflictos civiles y visitas de indios. Los enfoques combinados de la etnohistoria, la antropología y la historia social alentaron el interjuego entre escalas de análisis -eje de la investigación- y el diálogo con el pasado prehispánico y con problemáticas agrarias y políticas claves para la historiografía regional del siglo XIX y aún de nuestro presente. Este artigo aborda a metodologia e a articulação interdisciplinar -entre história e antropologia- que nortearam a pesquisa em andamento sobre os Llanos de La Rioja. As fontes primárias para esta pesquisa foram censos e registros populacionais do período colonial tardio, abordados principalmente por meio de metodologias qualitativas, bem como outros documentos, como concessões de terras, conflitos civis e visitas indígenas.
