Using the historical-structural method, classical deindustrialization indicators are presented for the state of São Paulo and its main microregions. It is argued that São Paulo, especially its metropolitan region, plays a central role in explaining Brazilian deindustrialization by having the largest and most diversified national manufacturing park and central role in productive and regional articulations. It is concluded that São Paulo's economy remains the main economic center of the country, undergoing changes in its productive structure and reconfiguration of its capital and metropolitan region in the face of advances in the pattern of financial accumulation. Realiza-se um estudo sobre a ocorrência de desindustrialização no estado de São Paulo no início do século xxi. Utiliza-se de indicadores clássicos de desindustrialização para o estado de São Paulo e suas principais microrregiÁµes. Argumenta-se que São Paulo, principalmente sua capital e região metropolitana, tem papel central na explicação da desindustrialização brasileira por ter o maior e mais diversificado parque industrial nacional e papel central nas articulaçÁµes produtivas e regionais.
