Return narratives have proliferated ever since, authored by those who visit. This essay complements their views by focusing on Cuban cinema, music, and literature to scrutinize the representation of return migrants in their country of origin. Given that the Cuban exodus took place in various waves, it is possible to distinguish diverse types of reception, with most falling short of achieving a balanced portrayal. The essay attempts to also explain the reasons behind the failed representation. Si bien la migración ha sido una constante en las islas del Caribe, históricamente un lugar de tránsito en las Américas, la de Cuba presenta algunas peculiaridades. A raíz de la revolución socialista de 1959, miles de cubanos marchan al exilio con la esperanza de volver pronto, pero no es hasta 1979 que obtienen el derecho a visitar su terruño. Las narrativas del retorno, escritas por los viajeros, han proliferado desde entonces. El presente ensayo se sitúa del otro lado del espejo para escudriñar la representación de los emigrados que retornan en el cine, la música y la literatura de su país de origen. Dado que en Cuba el éxodo se produjo en distintas oleadas, es posible distinguir diversas recepciones, en su mayoría de signo fallido. El ensayo se propone, asimismo, responder a qué se deben los obstáculos que entorpecen una representación matizada. Embora a migração tem sido uma constante nas ilhas do Caribe, historicamente um lugar de trânsito nas Américas, a migração de Cuba apresenta algumas peculiaridades. Por causa da revolução socialista de 1959, milhares de cubanos vão a exilio com a esperança de voltar em breve, mas não foi até 1979 que eles obtenham o direito de visitar sua terra natal. As narrativas do retorno, escritas por viajantes têm proliferado desde então. Este ensaio está localizado do outro lado do espelho para examinar a representação de emigrantes que retornam no cinema, a música e a literatura de seu pais de origem. Uma vez que em Cuba o êxodo ocorreu em diversas ondas, é possível distinguir várias recepções, em sua maioria sem sucesso.
