This last aspect and the conditions of competition that the sector adopts at a global level, notably limit the possibilities of industrial upgrading and technological convergence. However, the increasing weight of the industrial uses of electronics, the developments of systems with embedded software and the heterogeneities in the insertion strategies of Fuegian companies in global value chains, pose different opportunities for technological convergence. Through case studies, this article analyzes these differences and their effects on the technological capabilities developed by representative companies of the Fuegian electronics industry, highlighting opportunities that could be exploited in niche electronics. La trayectoria de la industria electrónica de Tierra del Fuego fue moldeada por la promoción industrial, insertándose en las cadenas globales de valor como proveedora de servicios de manufactura final para el mercado interno y adoptando, de manera pasiva, la tecnología desarrollada por empresas globales productoras de bienes de consumo masivo. Este último aspecto y las condiciones de competencia que a nivel global adopta el sector, acotan notablemente las posibilidades de ascenso industrial y convergencia tecnológica. Sin embargo, el creciente peso de los destinos de uso industrial de la electrónica, los desarrollos de sistemas con software embebido y las heterogeneidades en las estrategias de inserción de las empresas fueguinas a las cadenas globales de valor, plantean diferentes oportunidades de convergencia tecnológica.
