The notions of “poverty”, “marginalization”, and different points of view of the “strategic” perspective are analyzed through the theoretical and methodological reflections that an investigation performed in a poor quarter of Cordoba has sustained. With the purpose of overcoming the dichotomy between theory and practice and in order to show the reliability of these concepts to explain and understand certain aspects of poverty , when considered as a relational and historic problem, this paper pretends to contribute to the creation of knowledge in the matter of the reproduction of society and its mechanisms of domination-dependence. Aunque Bourdieu no ha trabajado explícitamente la problemática de la pobreza urbana, sus categorías analíticas constituyen un importante marco de referencia a partir de las cuales se puede construir una aproximación al estudio de ese aspecto de la realidad social. Partiendo de reflexiones teóricas y metodológicas que sustentaron una investigación llevada adelante en un barrio pobre cordobés, se problematizan las nociones de “pobreza”, de “marginalidad” y distintas vertientes de la perspectiva “estratégica”, para luego presentar otra manera de construir el problema a partir de los conceptos y la lógica analítica de Bourdieu.
