Nowadays, the organization of documentshas gained prominence due to the development of archivistics as a excellenttool in the process of information dissemination for the society of knowledge.The proper organization, conservation and dissemination of the musical heritageof a society, region or country become more relevant in a globalized worldaiming to go beyond frontiers and cultures. Music is a significant element of thecultural identity of a society, and knowing how to properly gather and preservethis heritage through an adequate archivistic methodology becomes more andmore important every day. La música es el arte de producir el sonido, y como toda expresiónartística desarrollada por el hombre deja un vestigio material que bien puede serun documento en soporte papel o electrónico, o también en una grabación, entodo caso el producto será un documento musical. Para su adecuada organizaciónsurgen los archivos musicales, los cuales no deben verse como algo nuevo, susorígenes se pueden rastrear desde la antigüedad con la composición de lasprimeras obras musicales, pasando por las grandes catedrales medievales, hastallegar a nuestros días. Pero en la actualidad, su organización ha cobrado muchaimportancia gracias al desarrollo de la archivística como una herramienta en elproceso de divulgación de la información en la sociedad del conocimiento. Elorganizar, conservar y divulgar adecuadamente el patrimonio musical de unsociedad, región o país cobra más importancia dentro de un mundo globalizadoque pretende pasar por encima de las fronteras y las culturas.
