The vision brought about by the theory of systems reveals the extensive model and different information practices where the institutions and individuals develop a collective role, depending on a policy of information transfer. The information systems, consequently, act in a production line that control and appraise policies, objectives and goals possible by formal and informal structures mediation for the treatment and dissemination of the contents. In a traditional scientific communication model, that privileges the information storage, bookstores, publishers and traditional libraries are the principal mediators in the production, storage and dissemination of documents. In opposition, the extensive communication is a dynamic information system, in a scenario of interactive and multidimensional stocks, characterized by the insert of tools that promotes the interactivity, the hypertextuality and the hypermidiation. Se parte del enfoque que considera a la automatización de las técnicas de comunicación desde el modelo de comunicación extensiva y se infiere no solo un ordenamiento sino también la dispersión y uso universales de la información. La visión propiciada por la teoría de sistemas inspira al modelo extensivo, dado que en la práctica informacional, separa a las instituciones de sus stocks de información, cada agente (o individuo) desarrolla un papel colectivo, dependiente de una política de transferencia de la información. Los sistemas de información, en consecuencia, actúan en una línea de producción que comprende políticas, objetivos y metas con una necesidad mediática de las estructuras formales e informales para el tratamiento y diseminación de los contenidos. En el sistema de comunicación científica tradicional, las bibliotecas, los archivos, las librerías y las editoras, son los principales mediadores en la oferta de servicios de producción, almacenamiento e diseminación de documentos, con fuerte influencia de las formas convencionales de organización y control bibliográfico.
