But the Athenian democracy challenged such practices as it established equality between its citizens. We will focus on the analysis of the graphè hýbreos (outrage law), a law that punished violent and dishonourable actions among citizens. We will propose that the existence of this law demonstrates the importance of regulating such practices, since they generated a diminished and subordinate image of the people, putting in question the egalitarian principles of the democratic regime. La violencia aristocrática tenía como finalidad la deshonra de aquellos que la sufrían, lo que garantizaba las relaciones jerárquicas y de dependencia. La democracia ateniense puso en tensión tales prácticas ya que establecía la igualdad entre los ciudadanos. Nos abocaremos al análisis de la graphè hýbreos (ley de ultraje) puesto que constituía una ley que buscaba sancionar las acciones violentas y deshonrosas entre los ciudadanos. Sostendremos que la existencia de la ley demuestra la importancia de regular tales prácticas puesto que generaban una imagen devaluada y subordinada del pueblo, cuestionando los principios igualitarios del régimen democrático.
